What we’re doing to make our website accessible for you.
This accessibility statement applies to the website and/or domain associated with St Martin’s Gate Surgery Our website is hosted by SW Healthcare and we work in conjunction with our host to enable as many people as possible to use our website. This means that users should be able to:
Use your web browser to change colours, contrast levels and fonts
Zoom in, by up to 300%, without the text splitting off the screen
Navigate most of the website using only the keyboard
Navigate most of the website using speech-recognition software
Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including but not limited to JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to ‘the non-compliances’, ‘the exemptions’ or ‘the non-compliances and exemptions’] listed below.
Examples of non-compliance include:
Colour contrast in some areas may not be sufficient for every device
Page structures and heading orders may affect users using keyboard navigation to other assistive technology
On page forms may not work on all assistive technology devices (due to be replaced early 2023)
iFrames in some areas of the site are missing titles
Text animations may not be legible on all devices
Embedded NHS.UK widgets may not announce themselves properly on every device
OpenStreetMap widget used for practice catchment area map has insufficient colour contrast and may not work on every device.
Backup Google Translate widget in footer isn’t contained by a landmark – so may not be picked up by all devices
Embedded YouTube videos have low contrast and link text that is used for multiple different destinations
As our website is updated regularly between accessibility audits, it’s possible that the following no-compliance may occur:
Some form elements may be missing descriptions
Some elements may be missing keyboard focus
Some links may be identified only by colour
Some link text may be used for multiple different destinations
Some image links may be missing alternative text
Headings may be missing text in some areas

PDFs and other documents
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs on medical policy information
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23rd September 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
Live video
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23rd September 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services. However, if there is a specific document that you would like to request in HTML format, we will do our best to oblige where possible and practicable.

As part of the publishing policy, SW Healthcare carry out regular assessments and checks of documents and pages that are uploaded.
Physical Accessibility Statement
The practice is located in a shared building with one other business. A shared, private car park is available with some disabled access parking spaces. Our main reception is accessible by a wheelchair-friendly dropped kerb.
The practice has a waiting room and consultation rooms on both the ground and first floor, accessible by a lift and stairwell. Disable toilets are available on both ground and first floor.
Our main reception desk, located on the ground floor, has a lowered section to provide better access for wheelchair users. A hearing loop is available for patients with hearing impairments.
In the case of an emergency evacuation, the Practice has access to an evacuation chair. If you have any concerns about accessing all areas of the practice, and wish to discuss arrangements or adjustments in advance to your visit, please contact the practice.
Patients may request a taxi by speaking to a member of the team on the ground floor reception. A bus stop is located outside the practice on Newtown Road, which serves the number W6 Bus to Crowngate bus station/Coneybury Road.
